São Paulo Carnival: where the world meets Brazil


The Carnival in São Paulo takes place from the 4th to the 11th of March and is one of the biggest parties in Brazil. São Paulo, the largest city in Latin America, organizes the most important Brazilian cultural gathering full of creativity and beauty. Five nights of parades for almost 120,000 people sharing their joy and way of life. Because of the Carnival, the city of São Paulo hosts 30,000 tourists, generating R$ 51,000,000 income. It is expected that 20% of these visitors come from abroad. São Paulo City Council is the main sponsor of Carnival 2010. São Paulo, la plus grande ville en Amérique latine, organise le plus important rassemblement culturel brésilien de la créativité et la beauté. Cinq nuits de défilés pour près de 120.000 personnes partageant leur joie et leur mode de vie. Parce que du Carnaval, la ville de São Paulo accueille 30.000 touristes, générant des revenus R 51.000.000 $. Il est prévu que 20% de ces visiteurs viennent de l'étranger. Cegos assisterao desfile das escolas de samba de São Paulo

"Carnaval Paulistano: Só não vê quem não quer" é o nome do projeto que visa revelar toda a riqueza do Carnaval de São Paulo para os deficientes visuais. A iniciativa foi da São Paulo Turismo, com o apoio da Fundação Dorina Nowill, da FMU e das escolas de samba Rosas de Ouro, Mocidade Alegre e Camisa Verde e Branco. Ao todo são 45 deficientes visuais atendidos.

Em janeiro todos eles visitaram os ensaios das escolas de samba, quando puderam manusear os instrumentos, aprender a dançar e entender como funcionada uma agremiação carnavalesca.

Durante os desfiles, o grupo ficará em um camarote especialmente preparado, onde estarão expostas maquetes dos carros alegóricos, do sambódromo e também um mapa tátil para que possam entender a estrutura dos desfiles. Foram criadas também mini-fantasias, idênticas às que as escolas de samba apresentarão no sambódromo.

"Carnival Paulistano: "Just don´t see it, who doesn't " is the name of the project that reveal the richness of the Carnival of São Paulo for 45 visually impaired. The initiative was from São Paulo Turismo, with the support of Dorina Nowill Blind Institution together with the FMU University and 3 samba schools : Rosas de Ouro, Mocidade Alegre and Camisa Verde e Branco.

In January they participated at the samba schools rehearsals, where they experienced and understood how a carnival school operates by handling instruments, learning to dance, felling the rhythm and so on...

During the event, the group will stay in a specially prepared area, where they will be exposed to models of floats the Sambódromo maquette together with a tactile map for them to understand the structure, size e richness of the parade. Mini costumes were developed as well. All pieces are identical to the samba schools performance at the Sambadhrome.

Vai-Vai Samba School wins 2011 São Paulo Carnival

São Paulo Carnival has already chosen its champions. Vai-Vai samba school was announced as 2011 great winner with the samba theme presentation "A música venceu!" (The music won), which celebrated the life and career of a renowned brazilian maestro, João Carlos Martins.

On friday 11th, Vai-Vai and other seven Carnival winners will present again at Sambadrome in Champion´s Parade. This event gets along the 1st to 5th places of Special Group of samba schools – Vai-Vai, Acadêmicos do Tucuruvi, Unidos de Vila Maria, Mancha Verde and Gaviões da Fiel – and the two best of Access Group – Dragões da Real and Camisa Verde e Branco.
